New England aster is a stunning plant both in its appearance and for its ecological benefit to insects. Each fall, New England aster puts on a spectacular show alongside the goldenrods. It is a keystone plant in its role as a larval host and pollinator plant for butterflies and other insects.

🦋 Nectar plant for Leonard’s Skipper (Hesperia leonardus). Host plant for Silvery Checkerspot (Chlosyne nycteis), Pearl Crescent (Phyciodes tharos), Northern Crescent (Phyciodes cocyta) and Tawny Crescent (Phyciodes batesii) butterflies.
